Roomie keeps wanting to get a pitbull

Ignoring that we don’t have space for such a large dog and he doesn’t even give his cat its emotional/stimulation needs, he keeps saying he wants a pit bull because his family has a ton of them (theirs had pups) that they can’t find homes for. Fortunately our lease bans pitbulls, but eventually we want to move into a house once we graduate college that likely won’t ban them unless it’s a neighborhood with rules.

My main arguments are that multiple of my grandma’s dogs have been killed or attacked by various pit bulls (Not one bad apple! Multiple from across different owners) and again, he leaves his cat alone for days when visiting home so I have to feed it- he can’t handle a dog. Hell, he hates just walking for a few minutes outside, I can’t imagine him doing it every day multiple times a day for a dog.

He also can’t afford one, he just wants one. He can barely afford a meal from McDonald’s when he’s reaching the end of his paycheck, let alone a dog who needs tons of food (without buying a shitty brand that’s bad for them). He wants one from my coworker’s female pit if he can’t get one from his family before they run out (coworker’s pit isn’t preg, but she wants to breed her despite her having killed one of her other dogs- if you saw my comment about it from yesterday). It’s irresponsible.

His argument is his family has never had issues with their pits and that he’ll “figure out a way” to afford it after graduating. Another is that I have 2 pets, why can’t he have 2? (I have 2 dogs <13lbs that I can financially afford and give time for, hell, they eat better than me & get more vet check ups than I get Dr check ups). I’ve straight up told him I won’t live with him anymore if he gets a pit or other aggressive breed known for killing/suddenly turning lethal. That sways him from talking about it as much but he still mentions wanting one a lot.

This is mostly a rant, doubt he’ll get one knowing I won’t live with him anymore if he does because besides this topic, we’ve been good roommates and vibe well together. It’s literally just this.
