Screen freezing but game keeps running

Sorry for the post, I've been scouring the internet all week trying to find an answer but I'm not finding any fixes. I also had this issue year or so ago and I know turning off something fixed it but I can't for the life of me remember what.

But basically when I'm playing with shaders on, my game will run for a bit fine but then the screen will freeze but the game will keep running (which has resulted in me dying a lot). The only thing I can do is force exit the game.
I've turned off Discord's in-game overlay which helped a lot but it still keeps happening. I've also allocated more RAM and then less just to see if it was me accidentally overcooking my computer but that made no difference. But I'm also using an Alienware gaming laptop with all the drivers updated so I don't think that was the issue. I'm also using Sildur's Shaders.
