The Doctrine Of The Serpent Seed
So what do you guys think of the Serpent Seed Doctrine?
I was born and raised Catholic, and I veered away for about 20 years. I came back to the faith about 5 years ago, and this time I became a Christian. Over the last 2 to 3 years, I’ve found myself becoming more and more drawn to the reformed community.
So about a year and a half ago, my wife and I moved to a new state, and I found a nice little reformed Christian church, and our first time attending was actually a Wednesday night Bible study. The pastor was covering genesis, and he was mentioning the serpent seed theory and he flat out told the group that he believes it. Up until this point in my life, I’ve never even heard of it. So as time went by I continued to go to the church, and meet an amazing group of people who has really helped my wife and I in our walk with Christ. To be honest I can write a entire post on why I believe the lord led us here, but I’ll save that for another time.
Anyways as time went by, I decided to do more and more research the serpent seed doctrine, and In theory I love the story, and it sounds awesome, and it would give us a easy explanation on how some people just seem to be destined for hell, no matter how much anyone try’s to safe them. But how well is this backed up in the Bible, and that would include understanding the Bible in context??? Where I stand on the little bit a research I’ve done on it, it sounds like it’s a belief based on very loose Bible interpretation, but it’s not a common held belief.
As for the pastor himself, he has a long and strong history with in the Christian community. Back in the day he personally knew RC Sproul, which who was a mentor to him, and a big influence. So I’m curious if this was something that RC Sproul had taught in the past, and maybe it influenced my pastor’s beliefs? Another thing is that my pastor is very deep into theology, and he would rather be considered a theologian versus a pastor, and he has a few degrees, and even a doctorate in theology, so I’m wondering that maybe his education might have blind sided him.
So I would love to hear more about this from this group because for some reason the serpent seed doctrine just doesn’t sounds right to me. I would love to hear your opinions on it, any biblical proof of it would be awesome, or if you don’t think it’s true, but know the history of it, or who were some big theologians that were teaching it, I’d love to hear it all.
