The super max is actually working against its original intention. Teams who drafted the star are trading them away because they don’t want to offer the super max

The original intention of super max is to allow the team that drafted the player to offer more money to the star player in order to retain them. But we have seen recently it’s actually working against this intention. Kings doesn’t want to pay Fox that crazy amount of 5 year 350m extension. Mavs doesn’t want to pay Luka super max. If super max doesn’t actually exist, I believe teams would be more willing to give the players the maximum they could.

Now, because of the super max eligibility, the team that drafted the player is actually at a disadvantage because they had to pay more, because they can.
