Supervisor says gender-affirming care is now illegal because of recent executive orders - is this actually true for mental health counselors?
This is a question I absolutely cannot find the answer to no matter where I look. I understand that the executive order addresses medical interventions for trans minors, but I cannot understand how it affects counselors. I want to practice LGBTQ+-affirming counseling but my supervisor has warned me not to do that because it is currently “illegal.” I am very stuck and do not feel supported by my supervisor to practice ethically. Additionally, she continues to refer to it as countertransference, personal bias, etc. that I hold this stance, but that’s another story.
Edit: I am at graduate student intern, about halfway through my year and cannot really risk burning this bridge, as much as I know it’s not a good environment.
